1. Michael Calce
Michael Calce, known as Mafiaboy, made headlines for his DDOS attacks on major websites like Fifa.com, eBay, and Amazon.com. Despite a troubled childhood, he developed a keen interest in computers by age six. Later, he launched “Operation Rivolta” to disrupt websites and demonstrate his group’s cyber dominance.
Although his main target was Yahoo!, he accidentally took down several other sites while at school without realizing it. His bragging in chatrooms about shutting down Dell, which hadn’t been publicly reported, caught the FBI’s attention. Mafiaboy’s attacks may have caused $1.2 billion in damages. Since he was a minor, his sentence was relatively light.
